Greater Peoria #InternoftheWeek: Max DeCuna

Greater Peoria #InternoftheWeek: Max DeCuna

Meet this week’s intern, Max, by reading our full interview below. Meet him and some of our other great regional interns at this week’s intern mixer at RLI!

Q: Introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about you!

A: My name is Max DeCuna and I’m currently a Senior Graphic Design Major with a minor in Social Media Marketing at Bradley University. I chose my major because I love designing things whether its flyers/posters, or just anything I can think of. I’ve always enjoyed designing as a kid and I would mostly doodle them on a piece of paper, but I fell in love with bringing my creations to life digitally. I chose Bradley University because I really liked the size of the campus. It was not too big or small but most importantly, orientation was the most memorable experience when getting to know more about Bradley. The three-day experience was very fun and interactive which made me feel that I belonged at Bradley. I enjoy designing, being outdoors, and just hanging out with great friends.

Q:Tell us about your current position.
A: I’m currently the Graphic Design intern for W.D. Boyce Boy Scouts of America. My duties include designing posters, banners, and direct mailers for specific programs the company hosts. I get to collaborate with my coworkers on my designs as well as communicating with other clients outside the workplace. My day-to-day routine may vary. Some days the workflow is steady while other days it can be manic and making last minute changes to designs. But that’s part of the job, because I am able to gain real world experience!

Q: How does this internship compare to other internships/jobs you’ve held in the past?
A: This internship compared to past jobs I have had is focused on what I love doing. It is even cooler because I get my own cubicle!

Q: What is your opinion of the area?
A: My internship is located right outside of Downtown Peoria. I think the area is very nice since it’s so close to the city and it’s great to drive to and from work seeing all the buildings.

Q: What are you looking forward to most about your summer here in Greater Peoria?
A: I am looking forward to exploring Peoria more this Summer and hanging out with my friends that are here for the Summer. I am also excited that I will be gaining some job experience within my field, so I can prepare after graduation.

Q: What community are you staying in and what are your thoughts on that community/your summer crib?
A: I am staying in Peoria and I am currently in the dorms on Bradley’s campus. I am also a Resident Advisor, so I get to do Summer Staff and stay in the dorms! Although I am still in the dorms, I am still on campus and can still hang out with friends within walking distance.

Q: What are your thoughts on the intern mixer series?
A: I am excited to connect with other interns in the area and I want to be able to share my experiences with them and hear about theirs as well.

Q: Do you have a favorite restaurant, coffee shop, or hang-out spot here in town? If so, what is it?
A: My favorite coffee shop in Peoria would be Zion coffee bar. I don’t drink coffee, but I love their food and hot chocolate! The environment is open and friendly and it’s a great place to do work or just hang out with friends.

If you’re a regional intern like Max, be sure to attend our intern mixers! It’s not too late to register, so sign up here to connect with other area interns!
