Greater Peoria #InternoftheWeek Carl Resnick

Our next intern of the week is Carl Resnick! Carl grew up in #GP and is thrilled to be interning here for the summer at RLI. Be sure to say hi to Carl and all of our other #GP interns at tonight’s mixer hosted by Caterpillar!

Q: Introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about you!
A: My name is Carl Resnick and I’m from East Peoria, IL. I went to high school at Peoria Notre Dame and now attend Miami University (Ohio) where I’m majoring in Economics with minors in Accounting and Spanish. I love to play and watch soccer, exercise, read The Economist and The New York Times, and spend time with friends/family.

Q: Tell us about your current position.
A: I’m an intern at RLI, a specialty insurance company headquartered in Peoria, where I work in the Risk Management department. I provide analytical support for our reinsurance and risk management teams, including work with Excel and Tableau to create data visuals and automate data processing. I love the fact that even though I’m an intern, I’m doing important work and applying my knowledge in a practical way.

Q: How does this internship compare to other internships/jobs you’ve held in the past?
A: RLI’s internship program is second to none. Each week, the Human Resources department organizes events for the interns, from presentations by company leaders to fun events like a Peoria Chiefs game or scavenger hunt. RLI cares just as much about our personal development as the actual work we do. My co-workers are all very intelligent and always willing to answer my questions, and company leaders make time in their schedule to show me how my work matters to the organization.

Q: What is your opinion of the area?
A: I’m from the area, and I think there are many factors that make Peoria great. For work, I love not having to choose between a long commute or sky-high apartment costs that are characteristic of many larger cities. Yet at the same time, Peoria is big enough to have tons of events and activities that allow me to try new things and meet new people. It’s a great balance!

Q: What are you looking forward to most about your summer here in Greater Peoria?
A: I’m looking forward to spending time with family, learning and working in the insurance industry and relaxing before school restarts in the fall.

Q: What community are you staying in and what are your thoughts on that community/your summer crib?
A: I live in East Peoria and I love the proximity to ICC. I can work out at the CougarPlex, play soccer or tennis, and practice my golf game, all within a five-minute drive.

Q: What are your thoughts on the intern mixer series?
A: I’ve been to most of the intern mixers, and what I love about them are the opportunities to meet other people my age in the Peoria area. Outside of college, this is the best chance to meet like-minded young people and discuss our experiences, likes/dislikes and future plans. And the free food isn’t bad either!

Q: Do you have a favorite restaurant, coffee shop, or hang-out spot here in town? If so, what is it? If not, what can we find you doing on a weekend?
A: My favorite local place is The Spotted Cow for ice cream and food. And on weekends, you can find me watching soccer, reading, or hanging out with friends!
