Congratulations to our Intern of the week, Kate Sikora! Kate is from Highland, Illinois and…
This summer, over 200 interns registered and participated in our summer intern mixer series. Each Thursday for the past two months, a local Peoria company would host an intern mixer where interns working across the region could come, meet new friends, learn about the host company, and enjoy Peoria. This year we’ve had businesses like Caterpillar, UnityPoint, OSF, CEFCU, and Pekin Insurance all host an intern mixer. Interns also took part in some fun activities like a scavenger hunt down Water Street, enjoying a Chiefs game, and exploring part of the Peoria Zoo. Madison Derringer, a Caterpillar intern from Athens, IL, says it best:
I had a lot of fun exploring parts of Peoria I never had before and meeting other interns.
These interns are quite a diverse group too! We’ve had interns from New York, Texas, Massachusetts, Colorado, Georgia, and California just to name a few. Several also go to school outside the region with universities like Purdue University, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, the South Dakota School of Mines, and even Newcastle University in the United Kingdom. As Jamie Goslin, a Natural Fiber Welding from Senaca, IL, puts it:
I’ve met a lot of cool people I never would have otherwise.
We’ve had a fun time this summer getting to know a new group of interns and showing them how much fun can be had working and living in Greater Peoria and we can’t wait to do it all again next year. In the words of Megan Voss, a Bradley University intern from Apple Valley, MI:
I can’t wait to go to more of these next year!
